It took many years of study together with researchers from all over the world and an immense search for funding to start work on the first and only factory dedicated to producing a superfood to fight hunger in the world.
The idea came from Marco Roberto, who, immediately after founding the association “Saint Michael the Archangel”, thought about how many children, in addition to those he was already welcoming in the mission, could still feel hungry or cold. He himself tells us: I was reflecting that if I couldn’t bring the world into our mission, I could produce something within the mission to bring it to the world.
So the idea was born to produce something small, but that with a few grams could feed a malnourished child.
The factory, whose machinery is largely built within the mission, is divided into 4 sectors and has the capacity to produce 50,000 bars per day.
The first sector is where fruit, vegetables, and legumes donated by local farmers, which have small defects and cannot be sold to supermarkets, are processed.
In the second sector, we will process co-products of the beer industry, in particular, the Trebbie, which are used in the first fermentation.
In the third sector, we work with more noble proteins such as soy, peanuts, and whey protein.
While in the last sector, we manufacture the Barretta ready to be sent to the warehouse for shipping.
Food is the only resource in the world whose properties we cannot sell; by its very nature, it must always be divided and shared.
Remembering that in the end, the only thing that matters, that counts in life, is the good we do to any person at any time in any part of the world.
